Had to book it 30 miles to get to this car show before it ended, but it was worth it.

I have many slides and photos of my parents when (at my fathers request, because he didn't want them driving a 3 year old car) they traded in my mothers 1966 Mustang for a brand new 1969 Firebird and they 'splurged' for the $775 Trans-Am package with manual transmission on a whim (my dad told me the entire Trans-Am cost less than $2400 after the trade in) ... and then not even 2 years later my mother missed her Mustang so much that they got rid of the perfectly good Trans-Am and got a 1971 Mustang fast-back (they got a pitiful $1500 for their MINT 1969 2 year-old Trans-Am that had 13,000 miles on it at that time) - then they continued to trade their cars in every couple years for crappier and crappier cars (that's all they were making then) until around 1984 when they ended up with a Pontiac Fiero ... that's when I had to stop him from telling me the rest of the story, it was just way too depressing for him to go on (don't get me wrong, I really like Fieros and I currently have 3 of them, but they aren't worth crap and probably never will be)

a 1969 Firebird in mint shape will go for $20,000-$30,000 while a 1969 Trans-Am will easily bring in $100,000 with people fighting over who gets to buy it these days, and they were happy to get $1500 for it back then ... and the real rub is that the Trans-Am option was only $775 more! ... I know exactly what I would do if I had a time machine ...
